Attendance Policy & Absences

Davis School District’s Goal is Learning First! To make that goal happen it is critical that every student engages in learning activities regularly (whole class instruction, small group instruction, one-one-one support sessions, assignments, assessments).

Important Definitions

In Davis Connect Online School, we create opportunities for students to learn in a flexible and engaging online environment to personalize learning. Our educators are proficient with online practices that include monitoring continued student participation and progress. We build relationships with students through engaging online activities that include both synchronous and asynchronous learning. On occasion, there will be learning activities that are also available in-person.

  • One mark will be for students attending the LIVE LESSON (i.e. if the live math lesson is scheduled on Tuesday, the teacher will mark attendance right after class for those who attended).
    • If a student does NOT come to the LIVE LESSON, they have ONE WEEK to review the playback--once they do, the teacher can adjust the attendance on the day of the LIVE LESSON to show that the playback was watched.

  • The second mark will be for students attending either a SUPPORT SESSION (small group or one-on-one) as scheduled by the teacher or the student completing a CHECK-IN that week. The second attendance mark will be made on the second assignment date.
    • NOTE: The level of support will be determined by student performance data and students should be informed by the teacher the type of support they need to engage in, or they will be marked absent on the second day.
    • If a student does NOT show up for their scheduled SUPPORT SESSION (small group or one-on-one) or complete the CHECK-IN (as determined by the teacher) by the second mark date--they have ONE WEEK to reschedule/attend a SUPPORT SESSION or complete the CHECK-IN--once they do, the teacher can adjust the attendance on the second assignment date to show the SUPPORT SESSION or CHECK-IN was completed.

Checking Attendance & Clearing Absences

Students marked as absent in one or more periods between Monday and Friday of the current week, indicates that he/she did not engage in one or more classes on the day(s) it was expected. Engagement includes attending live sessions, watching session recordings, attending support sessions, checking in with the teachers, and submitting work in Canvas.

Please refer to the attendance screen in myDSD and email the associated teacher(s) directly for further information regarding this attendance mark.

Davis Connect absences may be cleared by a parent in myDSD within 3 days of the absence or by contacting our Attendance Secretary, Stephanie Kinder at stkinder@dsdmail.net or (801) 402-9006.

NOTE: If your student is taking a class(es) at their boundary school and is marked absent, these absences will show up as if they are from Davis Connect. Where that is the case, please work directly with the boundary school teacher to communicate about any attendance concerns and contact Davis Connect to clear the absence.
